Our programs are all about discovering new places and experiences. We organize ground breaking itineraries, social and environmental activities on weekends and public holidays throughout the calendar.

Hiking/Trekking

What is hiking / trekking you asks? Hiking/trekking is experiencing the natural environment the way it should be experienced - with your own two legs. It is a primitive physical activity that requires patience, strength and perseverance. Hiking is one of the easiest and least expensive sports to get involved in, and it can have great benefits for all age groups. Start out small and test your abilities. Do what works for you - if that means just walking through trails in a park, that's fine. Any exercise outdoors is better than none.

The mountains, hills, forests, rivers, waterfalls, beaches of Karnataka and neighbor states serve up excellent trekking. Whether you're scaling a towering mountain or going from highland forest to highland village - participating in our treks is a truly unique experience. At Bangalore Hikers, we welcome people of all ages and all trekking ability levels - keep in mind, however, that trekking is a challenging physical pursuit and is most suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness. To know more about age restrictions, read FAQ.

Cycling/Mountain Biking

Cycling is also another life on wheels sport wherein its widely regarded as a very effective and efficient mode of transportation; as well as a poor man's Mercedes - optimal for short to moderate trips or long planned journeys. Bicycles provide numerous benefits by comparison with motor vehicles, including the sustained physical exercise necessarily involved in cycling, that cycling involves a no consumption of fossil fuels, less air or noise pollution, much reduced traffic congestion, easier parking, greater maneuverability, and access to both roads and paths. The advantages also include reduced financial cost to the user as well as to society at large (negligible damage to roads, less road area required). Similarly mountain biking is the sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially designed mountain bikes. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes, but incorporate features designed to enhance durability and performance in rough terrain. Mountain biking can generally be broken down into multiple categories: cross country (XC), trail riding, all mountain, downhill, freeride, slopestyle, dirt jumping, and trials. The vast majority of mountain biking falls into the recreational XC, Trail Riding and Enduro categories. Keeping this in mind dear friends, BH has been engaged in organizing such events for the majority folks. So anyone capable of taking a plunges down a hill, of course through a tough terrain, is most welcomes here.

Volunteering

Volunteer with Bangalore Hikers

We are always interested in hearing from people who feel that they have something to offer the society, and this is a guide to some of the ways in which volunteers can get involved, but it is by no means comprehensive. If you have some other idea for how you think you can help out, we would love to hear your suggestions. Please contact us.

There is no need to apply formally to work with Bangalore Hikers; we don't need references and CVs. Rather, send an email explaining why you want to be a part of the organization, and what exactly it is that you would like to do. If you have relevant experience please do mention this, but we don't demand that you are an expert in your field; enthusiasm and passion for the project are the most important qualities in a volunteer.
